I have had my goldfish for about 2 months now. She was a baby when i got her and has almost doubled in size (to give you some age range for you if that helps). She was a dark silver color with a few dark spots over her head and spine but over the past three das has turned a lighter silver color. Her spots haven't lightened tho, they're still dark. Any idea what's causing this? Her water is fine, she eats good, and the other fish she lives with hasn't changed color...is she just getting older or what?

They can change color as they age. Also they tend to go white if the don't get enough sunlight. You also might try varying it's diet a bit. Add a color enhancing flake, spirulina flakes, orange slices, peas.... Also be sure to check your nitrate levels.

Goldfish bowls are banned in some European countries because they produce so much ammonia and get burned. If you wanted, you could experiment. Put the fish in a cycled tank with pristine water, or change their water 90% daily. Within a few days their fins and scales will turn black. The black indicates all of the areas on the outside of the fish that have been burned by ammonia and are healing in the good water. Their internal organs are also burnt. Yes, goldfish normally change color a few times in their lives. The first change is from their dull baby color to their juvinile color. Goldfish are born dull brown, black, silver, or bronze and change within a few months.

Dark colors in very young goldfish usually disappear rather quickly as the fish matures. That is: if you purchase a young goldfish with black on the fins and on some parts of the body with the predominate color gold then as the fish matures it will mostly become all gold. This why it is extremely difficult to breed panda (black and white) goldfish. They will usually become all white as they mature

As with all animals, color probably changes with age. A lot of animals start out lighter/darker and then grow darker/lighter as they mature. It's probably nothing too serious, if you're really concerned and the fish seems unhealthy, take it to a vet!

totally normal for goldfish to change color with age. my 6 year old goldfish was bright orange when I got him, and now he is half white, half light orange. I don't know the scientific reason for it though :/

Some color change in goldfish is natural. As long as she's eating and swimming and doesn't have a dull color, she's fine.

i think she is just getting older. but if you notice any white spots on her that look like flour, she has ick. the other fish will catch it too then you will have dead fish if you dont treat it right away. good luck!!
