While, yes, "Indians" are still around the time frame you are probably looking for is the mid to late 1800's but remember they are discussed all throughout American history classes from the time of the Mayflower in the early 1600's to the French and Indian War in the mid 1700's and through the Battle of Little Big Horn in 1876 where General Custer died.

From 28,000 BC until now... They first came from Asia on the Bering Strait land bridge and eventually, their populations swelled until about 100 million in North America by the 15th century. 90-95% of them, however, were knocked out by small pox, yellow fever, and even bubonic plague in the 16th and 17th centuries, thus making widespread colonization very easy for Europeans. It wasn't so much the white man as it was the white man's disease that decimated, literally decimated, their populations. And yet, no one ever talks about that. Talk to your teacher about the impact of disease on Indian populations. She will be impressed.

I suppose you mean USA Indians, or south or central American Indians. Or do you mean Indians from India?.

In any case Indians are still around in all places,.In the USA in Reservations. In Central and South America they´re all over the place, and growing by the minute.
