If Mollies and Platies will mate, how come the male platies don't go after the female mollies?

I have 5 male platies and they aren't going after the 3 female mollies... why?

Just because it's possible for them to doesn't mean they want to. They will not breed together normally and won;t at all if there are same species females available. That is the male platys will never chase the female mollies if there are female platys in the tank.

Generally speaking crossbreeding like that never has good results. You will usually get poor quality babies, few of them and lots of deformed fish. Not a good idea.

They are not the same kind of fish. Mollies and Platies are two different kinds of fish, even though they look kind of similar. They aren't attracted to each other. Close minded fish lol. They like to keep it in their species I guess. Guppies with guppies, platies with platies, etc.

Mollies and platies can't mate. Platies and Swordtails can.

You should have more females than males. 3 males to 5 females. Otherwise you will stress the girls out.
I breed guppies myself and I find when there is more males then harrass the girls so much that in the end the girls are stressed and the males wont touch em .
