All polls should be taken with a grain of salt.

Some areas we are heading in the right direction-- economy is doing ok (not great but ok), corp. profits are decent, unemployment is low, inflation appears to be in check, interest rates are still relatively low.

Housing market is a question mark and will be weak for a littel while yet.

The budget deficit is a mess and so is the trade deficit. Trade policy is a joke. The dollar is tanking against the Euro and the Pound-- not all that great.

Some industries are struggling--e.g. Auto

Iraq and Afghan Wars-- those are a mess. I think these are what is weighing on the mood of the country. We hear of Iraq every day. The people have no faith in the administration-- too many failures.

Question: Was it a scientific poll, or one of those other completely meaningless things?

Also, who's NBC to be worrying about the direction of the country? NBC needs to be worrying about its own direction. It's closing in on a "0" audience share.

Citing polls as proof that you’re argument is fact is a sign of intellectual cowardice. If the mob says hang him, "the majority agrees he is guilty", do you suspend his rights and string him up. That is just mob thinking.

It seems the intellectual lazy cite polls becasue they don’t have to defend their position on the merits because “the people” are always right. Such is the wrongheadedness of populism.

The right direction ON what? The economy? National security? Foreign policy? The war in Iraq?

Yeah, the question is a little vague all right.

It means 22% of people said yes to a vague question. That's all it means.

Here we go with the "polls" again, an NBC poll at that. Wait until tomorrow it is sure to change. I doubt it was even a scientific poll, just one on their website.

Americans want everything fast. (food,money,cars,etc..) We didn't go and kick butt like most expected including the people that have now turned their backs on the President. This is a war not a baseball game, they take time to win. Don't trust the media they are out only for themselves. Support your country.

That is a major shock coming from NBC. Who did they poll? Did they ask Keith Olbermann the same question 20 times and use that as their sample?

It is improving. Last time I saw a poll it was worse than that. I know the neocons will take any credit for an uptick in improvement but it is only a point or two so they shouldn't get excited. It might be within the margin of err.

Polls are moronic.

That question is extremely vague.

People can certainly give insincere answers to polls.

The majority can be wrong, too.

Pay no attention to polls. And if any news media outlet acts like a poll is news, stop listening to that news media outlet.
