I mean seriosusly, what's with all this "being feminine" crap. I think if a girl wants to play sports or be agressive, then that's fine. Why does everyone think a girl like that has a mental problem or somethin? Granted, I do think women should wear feminine clothes so they don't look ugly like most men. Guys should dress nicely too. I love it when my girlfreind dresses me up in the metrosexual clothes we bought in South Korea last year. I look pretty cool in them.

How come men don't like to cook? I cook for my gf whenever she's sick or at work. I'm actually better at cleaning the house, too. Hmm....isn;'t that strnage? I thought women were supposed to be good housewives. That's bullsh*t.

I'm so glad me and my gf are "freaks" Too bad the rest of American society isn't so binded by their gender and can be happy like us.

Most people support gender roles because they seem them as normal or because they themselves fall into them.

If you DON'T fall into a gender role, that would certainly become a problem. I don't see it as a big deal because gender roles are just guidelines anyways. Ostracism may be a factor if you deviate from said roles, though...

To answer the question instead of rambling, the reason why some women would encourage "femininity" and adherence to a gender role is because they see it as "normal" and/or "necessary." At the very least, gender roles are stable and have a good track record. It is always good to have a certain standard because it maintains order, which is necessary to maintain a society.

That is not necessarily very equal or open to choice, but it is practical.

Honestly to tell you the truth I may be more of a freak than you or your girlfriend. I believe in being obedient. I am at the same time a very strong feminine woman.
How come men don't like to cook? My Syrian husband has this friend from Syria who believes that women cannot cook right so he does it himself; not to brag, yet out of all the women he knows, Arab and or American, he liked my cooking the best.
No it's not strange that you are good are cleaning. I choose to do it to honor my husband who works hard every day in the hot sun; he's a Civil Engineer. You know something the minute he walks in the door I always have a smile on my face, a glass of water in my hands and a pleasant word for him to hear. He never sees me in my pajamas except when we go to bed at night, also when he comes home the house is clean; once in a while there might be an occasional kid's project on the family room floor.
When I've been really sick I'll let you know my husband has gone to bat for me, becuz he knew it had to be done, why becuz we are partners, best friends and that's how it should be.

These are the same women who claim that FEMINISTS are opposed to choice. They seem to have blind faith in the status quo. They can be defined, according to A.H. Maslow, as "low-dominance." I don't mind being feminine here and there, but my beliefs matter more than the impression I give off to other people.

To Alexandra: There's a difference between respect and chivalry. If a man really respected a woman, he would trust her to be able to open the door herself, no matter what she was wearing.

Because they have scratched and clawed to get where they are, and if they feel threatened, they will get cat scratch fever, and make the woman whom they view as a threat's life a living hell. Kind of like the mother goose who protects her nest. They will take the bread you are feeding them, but they can still hiss at you at the same time.

I'm a female and I like being feminine.

I've heard from other women who, when they started dressing nicely and modestly, were shown a lot MORE respect from men--such as more doors being held open for them, etc.

I also don't care much for metrosexuals. Too girly IMO. Not calling metrosexuals gay...they're just a bit too girly.
