They're too busy talking on their cells or online. They think this doesn't affect them as a lot of them don't even realize what's going on. American Idol & all of the other garbage out there is their only experience in life. How do I know? Lived long enough & personally seen this.

They do. It just is not the cultural movement it was in part because of the 60's. Lets be honestly they did **** all. Think about it for a second has government improved or has anything changed since. No so what is the point in protesting when that really doesn't do anything. It is easy to shoot at the US right now they are a big target but when was the last time anyone of you went out and protested. It is a different time and a different age the old ways did not work we need to find a new way to change the world because apparently smoking pot and talking about free love doesn't do anything productive.

Students don't protest because we aren't being hard hit yet. (Not to make light of life lost at war allready).

But like someone mentioned above the **** would hit the fan if they were trying to draft my brother (or me) I wouldn't be on this computer, saying the war sucks I would take to the streets and start burning pictures of George Dubya in front of the capital.

But they aren't.

Don't worry though - i think you'll see some "marching" in the next couple years what with women's rights being snatched away, minority rights being screwed, the poor getting poorer and social security becoming a thing of the past. Yeah.... you know us...sorta takes someone stealing YOUR car before you care about all those random people out there getting their cars stolen - suddenly your like hey! WTF man! What are we doing about all these damn car theifs... But until your car gets stolen - you don't care you're like damn man...that sucks...ride the bus or walk like normal students....

I know - random eh?

People have become complacent and don't take on what seems bigger than life anymore. In the 60's the young people were the majority and very inspired to make a difference! They hated the Vietnam war because it was never declared a war, yet, 50,000+ died in this police action.. It wasn't only young people in that time, Nobody believed in that war!!! Very bad memories!!!

Because, for the most part, it did no good. "The authorities" of that era perceived it all through unseeing eyes and deaf ears - paying just enough attention to spot WHO was doing it. All it accomplished was putting the protesters on somebody's "subversive' list, getting them labeled as "kooks" and "cranks" and getting their phones tapped.

Whatever social change DID come about back then came about ONLY because the greedy power-brokers saw that it had some potential for them to exploit. If it was something that someone also happened to be protesting for, well, that was just a fortunate coincidence.
These controlling interests (and/or their successors) have tightened their grip slowly and steadily, but INEXORABLY since then, and ineffective as it was then, it would be even MORE ineffective NOW - not to mention more DANGEROUS, as well!
Technological advances have brought the abilities of "security agencies'" to spy on and disrupt the lives of the everyday citizen to terrifying new levels!

Although, despite your question, we HAVE seen numerous war protests, and have ANY of them gotten any of our boys back from Iraq? NO! And they won't! The controlling interests in Congress now are against the war and even THEY can't stop the "Comander-In-Chief"s megalo-maniacal determination to feed as many of our husbands, brothers, boyfriends, sons, etc, into that hopeless middle-eastern meat-grinder as he wants to.

All we can do is grit our teeth, ride it out and VOTE it out!

Because
1-Many have -no- Idea what is up outside of bits and pieces that they can't put together, as all of it is now garbled, no firm for sure place to start, is there? All has a 'few' holes..like cutting off the bits that stick out off the puzzle peices..NOW where do you put it?
2-People don't have the 'past' knowledge of the last generation..haven't had it tough really...that and they started life in this, so a little is okay..same in the next gen, and the next. Read history...it's sad.
3-Because no one tells them to in a way they can have a 'OH BOY....NOT GOOD!' feeling, can't relate it to anything maybe?

Sheesh, I wasn't able to feel sorry for something I had done when I was a kid, but was able to be sorry I wasn't sorry..if you don't feel anything...hard to make yourself come up with a substitute that works the same way..if there is one.
these are just my thoughts-
Reft-
Luck to you!

In the 60s, we had a middle class...folks gave a sht. Now we have only two classes...rich and poor...the rich are too happy being rich to be bothered, and the poor are too busy struggling day to day to have the energy. Its also the lack of a draft...if we had one, and lots of rich kids got picked, there would be an uprising, Bush knows this, and this is why we have nore than 40 thousand paid mercenaries in Iraq....if he had to draft those 40 thousand, all hell would break loose.

marching and protesting does not make war go away. you can air your opinion and maybe go to jail but the war goes and will continue until it is over or we just leave not because a bunch of protesters say so.

I've been asking myself the same question. Maybe because people are willing to accept more things nowadays and have different priorities in their life, being materialistic has become a number one priority, other peoples well-being is not as important to us anymore than our own. It seems like being idealistic is not important anymore.Maybe people don't feel they have to revolutionize nowadays because todays parents are probably not as strict anymore either and their home is where children are "formed":

There is no draft.

No draft, no protests.

Without a self interest, most people won't bother to do anything. They'll just continue with their life and pretend they have nothing to do with the war. Already, most people who were pro-war are pretending they werenever for it.
