People are so interested in bling that they can't write five quality songs on one album.

You can thank the cheapo download rumpheads who insist that music needs to be free to get. If you don't pay the artist, this is the end result. Oversaturation of meaningless free garbage. The men you describe above made it when albums were bought, and all the songs were scrutinized instead of one single. I will die inside if the Limewire download kills the classic rock album theory.

Music has no meaning any more - it's whatever makes a good sound & sells to the consumer, which is a load of loud drums & guitars, & "rock stars" shouting over the music.

(I would've said that "TRUE" lyrics were sung by Spandau Ballet, among others - but that wouldn't have been fair).

There are still great bands, it's just that commercialism pisses on everything. Listen to jet...a good band. Then there's job for a cowboy...another good band...totally different genre, but I am soooo eclectic it's comical.

there is hope, art in the uk is strange, almost a sub culture, but there are people dedicated to writing meaningful words, so you have the layer you describe, but underneath the real art, be it painting or poetry, or songs.......all three are linked...look to bebo, look to 360 you will seek and find there.
