Under the doctrine of absolute pre-determination, society cannot hold us responsible if we decide to get drunk and our actions result in an automobile accident. Such incidents would have been part of a chain of causality that originated with the beginning of the universe. If we have no Free Will, there can be no responsibility and no punishments. Society could not exist.
The speculation that we have no free will defies common sense and our everyday experience of life. With the intervention of free will, our future, and thus the future of the universe, will follow a path different from the path it would have pursued without our intervention.
In addition to scientific considerations, common sense insists that Free Will exists. Who would deny that we have Free Will when we put one foot in front of the other and decide, of our own volition, of our own Free Will, to go for a walk or not go for a walk? It is clearly irrational to believe that a chain of causality (pre-determination) at the time of the Big Bang determines if we go for a walk this afternoon, or not.

That question reminds me of something Gandhi said.
"There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread." I would say that their life's purpose is pre-planned - survival.
Only people with a certain amount of affluence can ponder about a topic like this. There are some individuals who seem dragged into a purpose without any choice but generally we can choose our life's purpose (whatever that term actually means).

The Bardo Teachings suggests that just before we are reborn, an opportunity arises. Though having just gone through the Bardos of Death, most of us are so confused, that we are unable to make any choice and that is why in desperation we may enter into an extremely unfortunate rebirth. Your Karma will guide you to have a certain birth, even though some who have been sufficiently realised will be able to play part in the choice of birth parents.

The meaning of life:
There is none, It's up to you find your own purpose.
Now quit making up excuses and scapegoating imaginary friends (like God), and make something of yourself. This life is not a preparation for the next; it is the ONLY life you will ever have so quit kneeling, quit praying and live it.

Well it depends, we all make choices that lead us into things. Some are bad and some are not. It all really depends on what you do, it's like that saying (I got this in the matrix) "Do you believe in Destiny, Neo? "Of course I don't, destiny means you can never choose what path you want to take". Or something around there =).

I believe that our life's purpose is pre-planned...pre-planned by our Creator. Before we were conceived in our mother's womb, He had this vision and mission for us. However, He also gave each of us FREE WILL. He gave us the freedom to choose our life's purpose. The proximity of that "chosen" life purpose to God's original design depends on how close your relationship is to God, how willing you are to seek, know and obey His will in your life.

Karma-cally speaking... you can choose your life's purpose and select a life experience that is most likely going to provide that experience, BUT beyond that, you (and those around you) can make mistakes/choices that may not allow you to achieve that purpose.

Everyone has a purpose in life. Life is the journey towards it. Everyone has a profound effect in at least one person's life. You are attracted to what you were meant to do.
