because they pander to that demographic. It is very unfortunate too. They prey on this race with the promise of many social programs that will do nothing but keep them slightly above the poverty line. Have you noticed that most successful black people (with the exception of entertainment and sports) are conservative? And if they get too successful like Condi Rice... well... they really aren't black anymore and the party turns their back on them... so who is really "keeping them down"?

Hey this is a great question--I'm going to give you a star for it!

And the answer is: they DO think they have a monopoly on it, and maybe they shouldn't.

The Black vote is a volatile vote. Yes by the numbers, a greater percentage of black votes go democratic.....yet there is a BIG but here.

Black voter turnout is frequently light.......and those more likely to vote against "the man" are the very ones who DONT vote.

Another element in the mix is that --in the south particularly--many black voters believe that the Democratic party has gone too far to the left and eschews the values of church, family etc. And those with these traditional values are the Black voters who are more likely to turn out and vote to begin with.
Hearing of blacks switching parties from democratic to republican in certain circles due to the "family values" pull is not unheard of.

We pretty much do. 100% of black people in congress are Democrat.

This lock happened because the conservative wing of the Republican Party used the RACIST Southern Strategy to win the South from Dems. All the liberal northeastern Republicans that voted for the 1964 civil rights act (along with the liberal wing of the Democratic Party) have been moving into the Democratic Party ever since. That's why the north is Democrat country now.

It's no secret that there are more Black Dems than Black republicans. But a monopoly? I don't know any lib who thinks they have a monopoly on anyone.

They think that Blacks are ignorant and only want something for nothing—they want Blacks and others to be dependent on big government. A large dependent group assures them of election and high paying jobs (for the liberal politician). They are not aware of the successful entrepreneurial Blacks who are successful business owners and are successful and conservative. The democrats in congress were most opposed to the civil rights movements..

The simple answer: They ASK for Black support of Liberal ideas and themes.

More complex :The Republican candidate usually received @ 12-15% of the Black vote in Presidential elections since Reagan. This includes marginal gains of 1 to 3% per election. It was Bush's RE-ELECTION AND HIS IRAQ WAR AND POLICY that brought about a reversal of this mini-trend. We don't HATE the man. We HATE that he's POTUS. We HATE his bumbling, inaccurate lead up to the war. And we HATE his execution of this debacle and the subsequent re-routing of our personal liberties

In statewide races, Republicans typically score @ 20% with Blacks AND THE NUMBERS HELD. Their high water marks in statewide Federal elections since Reconstruction, has been the election and re-election of Massachusetts Senator Edward Brooke who received 67% of Af-Am votes in 1966 and 59% in 1972. He lost a third term to the Democrats, but still received 46% of Af-Am support.

During this past election cycle Maryland Blacks gave Michael Steele @41% of their votes in his run for the US Senate. And get this . HE LOST! And there is only one reason. Maryland's primarily White Republicans did not support Steele to the extent of the pre-election forecasts. This is NOT my opinion. This is the opinion of the Maryland Republican Party Chair Dr. Jim Peluma.

Simply stated, you need to re-visit THIS significant episode everytime you throw out garbage like this "thread's" bigoted and BS presumptions about blacks and Liberals. It's been said before and I'll say it again:

A conservative knows nothing of what a Liberal is thinking unless a Liberal TELLS him."

As evidenced by the Maryland occurence, you're even quite clueless of what CONSERVATIVES and Republicans are thinking. :-)

They are losing that, slowly. More and more Black Americans are becoming Republicans. I can clearly see this at my public university. They want to be treated equally. They want to be part of the American vote, not just the Black vote. Look at Hillary, she has tried to talk 'black' to win black votes, how low. I dont care what color a person is, and that is what many Blacks want. Many are willing to do away with things like affirmative action to gain more respect.

The greatest con-job in history is how the Democrats have convinced the blacks that they are the party that is looking out for their best interest.

How could you have a monopoly on an entire race of people?

I don't think liberals think about it that way.

I think liberals actually care about what black
people think - and for some reason I think black
people actually respond to that.

Why bother ask what the rest of the liberals
think. Why not ask why blacks generally vote
for liberals? When you've answered that question,
maybe you'll be able to figure it out.
