Someone posed the question of if their transmission problems could be due to poor fuel quality. The vehicle is a 02 Ford Escape 6 cylinder 4x4.

Indirectly, yes it could cause a difference if the feeling of the shift. Poor gas could cause the engine to miss, thus causing the tranny to seem sluggish one time and then abrupt the next shift. This is not a usual cause for someone to notice shifting differences but with the advances in electronics and vacuum modules, it can happen. But, by "poor" gas, I would assume they have water or other contaminates causing problems and changing the fuel filter would be my first recommendation

Not unless the car was made for the fuel to pass through the transmission. That in itself is totally ridiculous. The transmission and the internal parts work differently than the engine.
Poor fuel will, of course, give you less mileage. A faulty transmission will also give you less mileage. Keep the transmission in good shape and use high quality gas. You pay more but you will save by getting extremely better mileage.

No. Fuel does not enter the transmission. The transmission is basically a hydraulic pump that is powered by the engine.

no, fuel would havd nothing to do with transmission performance or durability.
