I inadvertantly left the a pan of grease on the stove, and it caught fire. The house is fine, the kids and I have cleared the smoke by opening windows and turning on fans, but the stench is acrid and horrible.

I've tried Febreeze, but still our eyes are burning. Any suggestions?

I don't drive, I cannot get to the store, and we have nowhere else to go.

I need ideas on how to clear this using products I have around the house. Thanks.

I agree with all of the suggestions. Also I would put out fabric softener sheets. My husband is a nurse they use dryer sheets on his floor at the hospital.
It will take a while but hang them everywhere in your kitchen and all over the house. Another item that works is charcoal it is great for bad musty oders. It may just take time to get rid of the smoke smell, be patient.
You may have to get your carpet and furniture clean professionally.

I hope this helps

Try mixing 1/2-1 cup of vinegar and a gallon of water. Using the mixture to clean the room from top to bottom. Use the same mixture to clean the rugs, carpets and furniture by using a rag dipped in the mixture and scrubbing.

Get the smoke out with fans and open windows.
You will need to scrub the kitchen cabinets and walls like you are moving into a home where a smoker lived. Vacuum also.

Looks like you gave yourself a good reason for spring cleaning. (thinking glass half full)

Unfortunately, every fabric in your home will have to be cleaned or replaced- clothes, towels, bedding, furniture, carpets, etc.
Did you contact your insurance company? It is fire damage!
Contact a dry cleaner or carpet cleaning service for people who specialize in this. They will know what is needed.
Can you camp in the backyard or n the garage until smell is gone? Those fumes are bad!
Also, fire department might know some treatments - they get smoked every day!
