just the new earthlike planet discovered got me worried that there could be something like signs, independence day, or war of the worlds. also, is there an explanation to crop circles? in our retention area, there are these 10 foot diameter circles of darker grass. just wondering.

Yhe new earthlike planet is not earthlike. It's around the same temperature but it may not even have an atmosphere. Also if you rode the shuttle, it would take you 800,000 years to get there. Find something else to worry about.

Just because we discovered a planet 20 light years away that has a mass similar to earth doesn't mean it has intelligent life on it. Its only superficially like earth. Its in tight orbit around a red dwarf star, so it always has one face to the sun (no day or night). The sun side would be too hot for life, the dark side too cold.
You don't think that there is life on that planet that suddenly knows we found the planet and is out to get us, do you?
There have been movies (and before them old-fashioned books you have to read yourself) that fictionalized alien encounters on earth. They make good entertainment, but that's all they are.
