sometimes i really do laugh out loud, but rarely. most of the time i just type it as a response, not really an action, if u get that? lol...

You know what? Your like right! Alot of times I might like chuckle but not really "Laugh Out Loud". But i do use it to create an atmosphere.

When I type LOL, I mean that I got a good laugh and it was worth it. I don't usually type that unless I find it funny. I guess it is a lot like laughing in public. If the timing is right, you laugh. There is nothing more annoying than inappropriate laughter.

I type lol to create the atmosphere as you say. I also do it to let the person know I'm being sarcastic and not to take what I say literally.

When I am actually laughing i put lmao, lol i usually used to as you said "lighten up the atmosphere" also, to let ppl know that I am joking.

sometimes I really do laugh out loud at the crap on here. but usually its just to get across that i'm trying to be funny or make a joke or that i get the joke that someone else is making.

It is actually to show you that the person is laughing because you can't see or hear them laughing.
