For your size right now, you should settle for cornerback or safety. As long as you have speed you can play both of these positions at the freshman level.

As 6'3" you'd make for a huge TE/LB but at 5'6" I'd work on my hands and defense which would make me that much better at TE/LB when I am 6'3". So I say go with DB/WR. A Defensive Back is kinda like a Fast-Paced Linebacker. If you can guard someone learning the additional run stoppages and blitzes should be easy. Same think goes for Wide Receiver.

As to working out I would agree with working your legs the most. However you should be expected to block a man on the outside as a WR so I would also work your upper torso as well.

alright dude this is a good question because i had the same problem goin into my freshman year only i was about 10 punds heavier than u. for now ur gonna wanna play safety to get into the feel of having to move around to stop the run and having to cover the pass at the same time. also safety get more clean hits then a line backer. so play safety till u get big. in the mean time u need to be benching squatin and do wrestlin to build up ur frame. i no wrestlin might look gay having to touch a guy in spandex but jesus christ does it get u ripped. after one season ipicked up 12 pounds of muscel grew to inches. a sport like wrestlin increases testosterone which is good for muscel building. drink alot of milk and eat fish and chicken for protein. and besides benching and squatin do some olympic workouts that ur coaches should teach u lik snatchin cleaning and split jerks.

I think you should stick to Wide Reciever or running back. Those are skill position's and are targeted for people who are generally small. Or you could try cornerback on defense. Once you get this "growth Spurt" i suggest playing TE or DE or LB.

Try running a mile everyother day and maybe go to a gym or fitness center and use some machines there. Work out your arms and legs as well as your stomach, pushups help as well. Also play tackle football with freinds, get used to faking people out and tackling people it will get your confidence up. Also try hitting a punching back, listen to some hardcore music to get you pumped.

Unless you've got blazing speed, you're coach will put you where he thinks you'll help the team the most. In fact, you'll probably switch positions before it's all said and done. I was a center/nose tackle in 8th grade, TE/SS as a freshman, and WR/FS when I finally grew into my body.

As far as workouts go... hit your lower body heavy. No matter what position you play, you'll benefit from having a strong lower body.

Good luck in HS!

Go out for safety for now it will give you great alertness to move to linebacker if and when you do grow. Agilty drills cones etc for drills and work on hand eye cirdiunation also lift weights for upper body strength.

Safety... are you fast? Try to build the core of your body. Crunches, benchpress, and others.
