My school is having "Pirate Idol" tomorrow at seven P.M. and i have a runny nose and my throat hurts a lot. i've been coughing all day and it's making it really sore. it's making my singing sound awful and i'm trying to redeem myself from previous experiences from when i hadn't yet discovered my voice. i'm considering not competing, but that's not a good option either! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Tea with honey. Gargle with warm salt water. Take an antihistamine tonight. RELAX. Get plenty of sleep.
If you are feeling bad tomorrow, you may have to drop out of the competition but I hope not.

Boil some water and then let it cool down just a littlle bit. Add some honey and a little lemon and then drink. Regular cough drops tend to work at first because they just coat your throat with sugar but then it's back to being sore.

I second the salt-water gargle and the tea with honey. Another tip:
AVOID DAIRY PRODUCTS.
My choir director was adament about that and while on tour many had to forgo ice cream. And that was when we were well. Being sick, it's even more important. You'll be less mucus-y.

-If your 21 or older- Try a shot of whiskey. Sqeeze a lemon slice in it as well as a teaspoon of organic honey. Gargle at first then slowly swallow. (repeat until drunk j/k!)

Place a humidifier or vaporizer in your bedroom & run it while you sleep.
Gargle with warm salt water.
