I like all sorts of books, but mostly ones that are funny or have a happy ending. 'Pride and Prejudice' is my all-time favorite book, but if we go by the no-romance-rule, I'd say the Harry Potter books, Peter Pan and The Lord of the Rings are some of my other favorites. OK, maybe some has a bit of romance in it, but there's also action and adventure with a little dash of magic and the supernatural, and they remind me of the things I used to believe in when I was a kid.
There's a lot more, but i dont wanna bore you ;)

What Looks Like Crazy on an Ordinary Day by Pearl Cleage, Flyy Girl by Omar Tyree, Baby of the Family by Tina McElroy-Ansa, Joy by Victoria Christopher-Murray, Behind Closed Doors by Kimberla Lawson-Roby, Changing Faces by Kimberla Lawson Roby and Wake of the Wind by J. California Cooper (Although fiction, this book taught me alot about African-American history and the struggle during and after slavery). With all of the other books, I could relate to one or more of the characters.

Gone With the Wind, by Margaret Mitchell. It is about the Civil War Era and is a great love story between Scarlett O'Hara a southern belle and a rouge named Rhett Butler. I am a Civil War enthusiast and have an original book dated 1936.

House of Dies Drear by Virginia Hamilton This book was full of mystery, secrets and a great ending. There was even a sequel to the book and a movie was made from it.
Bad Boy by Walter Dean Myers tells about the life of the author, this book and many others by him are great reads. The two authors above are my faves hard to pick a book by either one.

"Shogun". "The Stand". "The Winds of War" . Anything by Maeve Binchy or Rosamunde Pilcher. Why?? Depth of characters and plots. Great story telling. The why depends on the book but primarily I read to escape, go places I cannot afford to go, meet people I wouldn't ordinarily meet.
