I gave most of my baby stuff to my sister after my son out grew them. The problem is she was in an abusive relationship and when she left she left everything but her daughter behind and he gave it all away to his neighbors. I left everything go with my first 2 kids till the last minute and found that there was a lot of stuff I forgot. I am 6 weeks now, when should I start buying for the baby?

That depends on your budget. If you can get everything all at once in one big spree, go for it (before doing a lot of shopping becomes uncomfortable... or do it online). But, if you need to parse things out, start now.

If you're just worrying about forgetting stuff, why not start by making a list? If you're going to have a baby shower, wait until after that to do most of the actual shopping so you don't end up with extras of things. But of course, it's hard to resist going and picking out a few cute things for fun before that, isn't it?

Wait until after the babyshower and accept as many hand-me-downs as possible. That way you don't buy anything you don't need. Waiting until after the shower gives you at least a month to get all that last minute stuff. Make sure you get the essentials before you go into labor - I had to send my husband out for a car seat when I was in the hospital.

I am 6 1/2 weeks, and I want to start buying stuff right now. But, it's also my first pregnancy. I haven't yet and am proud of myself. I even asked my co-workers this question, one said she started buying stuff at 6 months, one at 4-5 months. I think I will start buying when I find out what gender my child is going to be...hopefully the doctors will tell me right!

Well, I wouldn't do it right now till you were further a long just in case something happens. I'm not trying to scare you but every pregnancies is different. I lost 2 babies at 17 weeks and I thought everything was going great with my pregnancies.

If your having a baby shower then you should wait after the shower. You don't want to buy things that someone else has brought you. If your not having a shower then wait till the end of your first trimester.

my baby grew out of everything so fast it was crazy. he was out of 0-3 month clothes in no time and when he was born i had to buy him preemie clothes. i would buy a couple outfits when you are about 6 months pregnant that are 0-3 months. this is bad but you dont wanna go out and buy all those clothes then have a miscarriage. then as your baby grows you could buy him outfits but there is no use in buying expensive ones or to many cuz he will just grow out of them in no time and you will just waste alot of money. shop yard sales honey when your pretty sure everything is ok with the baby.

I'd say to wait until toward the end of your first trimester. I know you don't want to think about this, but that's about the time that the risk of miscarriage drops considerably. Maybe get some small stuff now, but hold off on the big, expensive things.

Im a pessimist so i would wait until my 16 week scan just in case anything happened. Although there is no reason why you could not start buying a few bits now, but i personally would wait.
Good Luck
