It happened to me. I was taking the pill and didn't know I was pregnant for 3 months. (I was still having periods). My son turned out just fine. He is now almost 7 yrs. old.

If she were taking birth control and then became pregnant, then the birth control does not work, regardless of whether she continues to take the birth control. If she begins taking birth control some time after the pregnancy, then it would depend on how long she has been pregnant. It could either prevent the egg from attaching and growing, or lead to complications in the pregnancy.

It can cause some birth defects (I'm not sure of the details) with prolonged use. Stop taking your birth control ASAP. The baby is most vulnerable in the first trimester.

worst case it would kill the baby, not so bad is severe birth defects stop taking and see your doctor at once and tell them you were on the pill
