I took my mom out of state for work and unbeknownst to me, she brought along frozen shrimp...which defrosted in the 19 hour long drive....and it leaked onto my back floorboard. Now it stinks really bad and I have to drive with the windows down. Its worse when I first open the car door after its been sitting for awhile, because I live in Texas, the heat is so bad that when I open the door, it makes you want to puke! I've tried a number of things, but I'm running out of ideas, if anyone has any suggestions, please tell me!

Steam clean the carpet, wash out the entire interior. Sprinkle baking soda into the carpet and then vacuum to help get rid of the smell. Once that is done, try a product called Fabreeze, that works well with odors. good luck.

First going to need to wash carpet down - try odor ban. works pretty well, then good news - I found the perfect product that I've used for years and know dozens of other people that use it. It is a product called FRIDGE IT carbon odor absorbers. It is a little purple cube with an incredible activated carbon filter inside that is really, really, great. The carbon literally absorbs and eliminates the odors and works for a long time. It works so much better than all those sprays and plug in fragrances that just cover up smells and doesn't get rid of them. Also, alot of sprays have warning statements about being eye irritant. and gels and oils that say keep away from fabric, etc. and just don't eliminate odors. Just put a couple of these in car and trunk. I use this product everywhere including car(smoke and pet smells), storage, closets, my fridge and also under sinks, near trash and have friends that use it on cat litter box and also diaper pails - it's that good. I really recommend it. You can buy it in kitchen gadget sections in stores like walmart and linens and things. I also think camping world sells it. Definitely worth trying

Try an ionizer or ozone machine. Check with your local car detailing/ cleaning shop.
