Just curious, as to why we contantly take things up the as* all the time, i.e. High health care rates, terrible healthcare coverage, expensive drugs, beacuse there is no cap?? Why do you think? Not to mention the welfare society, that most tend to stay on the system, and not give back? Yet we keep paying for it from our taxes?? Does anyone else out there have comments on this subject? What about Social Security?? If they do come up with a new accounts system do we get credit for time served? Or do we start at Zero?

You all have great answers, even you the-one! If I wanted to sit in a corner and debate with myself, they would lock me up for mental issues. You answer must be the most passive answer I've read, people like you are exactally who I am talking about! The ones that just sit back and say nothing. People have bannded together for centuries when it comes to doing something that they want, they have even figured out how to work with eachother when language, it seems as if this country has really gone soft when it comes to team work. If lots of people feel the same way about something, then the more they have to listen to us. If Lots of people are fighting on their own, then they get smashed out. I wish it was just as easy to vote as it is to vote on American Idol. It is sad that more people in this country has called in to vote for a "popstar" verses voting for something greater.

I think it's related to the fact that we often use apostrophes when pluralizing words.

In order, my responses.
1 If you want a workable health care system, vote for someone for president committed to actually making that happen. That probably means a Democrat, though not certainly.
2. You're wrong about welfare recipients. With welfare reform, it's not really possible for recipients to stay on welfare rolls indefinitely. The vast majority of them receive benefits for less than two years. There are many other social support programs that cost taxpayers money, but add them all up and you'll find they represent a small portion of the total budget. Defense BY FAR is the single most expensive cost, and has been long before the war in Iraq.
3. I wouldn't worry about the accounts idea. Ain't gonna fly.

If you look back at when social security was first created, it was to help people out of the great depression and was never mean to be permanent. It will decrease and decrease on a yearly basis and one day it will be gone. Thats why you put money in your 401k or IRA. Don't have one? Get one.
The average retiree today depends on Social Security for 80% of their income. Don't be that person.
Welfare has a time cap and after a cetain number of years, you cannot recieve benfits anymore.
How do you expect to stand up for yourself if you don't educate yourself first?

These are all issues that are hard to fix...the problem is that most people realize that to fix all of these things as best as possible would require raising our taxes to the rediculous....I mean 50% or 70%. In Belgium and Japan people pay close to 70% income tax. They hope the goverment spends all that money fixing things. Questions is, do you want to pay 70 cents out of every dollar you earn to do the same? If you do, the problem is that most don't.

Let me guess, you hate Bush too?
By the way, taking a stand usually means voting. Unless you want to join Pinky and the Brain and try and take over the world, youre screwed and people on welfare will always have more liberties than you will... at your expense =P

Because people are not willing to take the vote intelligently for what they want. They vote by party, by looks, by what the idiot friend told them about the candidate, by that the TV told them etc.
When Americans start thinking and stop listening to the talking heads, there will be positive changes. Neither political party wants this to happen – they just want the country polarized and votes in their column.

We don't stand up for ourselves because we are confused. We think that the Constitution is a self-executing document to guarantee our freedom, but it is not so. It is merely a document that would instruct us when our freedoms are threatened, but we are confused into thinking that the very people who are the threat to that freedom are the proper guardians of it.
We need to actually read the Constitution, and vote against those who do not support it in their deeds.
Either that, or fit ourselves for bells so that we can be properly attired when we recognize that we are become cattle.

Accountability, I think that would be what you are looking for. Accountability in government. Accountability from so-called non-profit health care insurers. Accountability from welfare recipients. Until the millionaire's club AKA our educated politicians become aware that we need actual checks and balances, we are stuck with our current situation.

You can't afford the lobbyist the drug company's have. They also found there is no money in cures. If we didn't have welfare what would the liberals have besides a tree to hug.

What is it exactly that you think disenfranchised people can do about these abuses? We have the power to vote into office any candidate who has the money to run, and we can write letters till we're blue in the face. Beyond that, what is there to do?
