The Dow was at 10,000 for most of the Clinton years and we had a budget surplus. Now under Bush and Republicans we have a $9 trillion debt over ten years, the Iraq occupation will cost working class tax payers $2 trillion over ten years.
According to Republicans when Clinton was in office the President has nothing to do with a "good" economy. That was then. BTW, how was the existing house market under Clinton? You know the working class's greatest investment of a lifetime?
Record profits in the Stock market are caused by lower taxes for the corporations and the wealthy, they take money out of your pocket. Not mine. ROTFLMAO at you.

Typical republican nonsense. There is no correlation between what bush has done and the economy because, lets face it, he was handed a booming economy by "slick willie". All Bush had to do was not fudge it up, fat lot of good that did since we are "just now" getting back since 9/11. It took Bush 6 years to get the economy rolling while it took Clinton six months. You do the math, its the economy stupid!

First of all, the overall economy and how well or not well it is doing is not reflected in the overall stock market. Even economists know this. It happens to be the time of quarterly earnings reports. And, if you pay attention to the stock market like I do, you would know that not all the earnings reports are good. Our auto industry is failing, for example.
More people are getting laid off their jobs.
Foreclosures in California are up 800% from last year. Inflation is inching upward. This is going to drive housing values down down down. As foreclosures rise, it is going to take very heavy tolls on neighborhood houses in the same vacinity of those foreclosed houses. Oil prices are moving up again. Most of The middle class is stretched to the breaking point. GWB has a very very very large budget deficit which has made our overall national debt skyrocket. And, that doesn't even include the cost of this war. Please learn to look at the whole economy and it's indicators before you post.

Most of the NYSE listed companies are mutlinational corporations, they may be incorporated in the US, and may have, at various points in thier history done business primarily in the US, but most now do business around the world, and economic opportunity (for big corporations) in the global economy (which is what the rising stock market is an indicator of), does not automatically equal good news for the narrower US economy.

For one.. you are late. Someone else already posted this. 2nd, the stock market IS NOT THE ECONOMY. The economy is measured by the GDP. artifical benchmarks like 13,000 reached by the dow jones have little to no actual meaning.
The president has not done anything to cause this. The stock market is determined by business, both in the US and abroad.

The economy has been stimulated by run away deficit spending that was brought on by tax cuts for the rich. - Crack Cocaine also has a stimulative effect, but that doesn't mean it is a good thing. No other president has cut taxes in the middle of a war. Future generations who will have to pay the bill will suffer because of Bush's reckless policies.

Show me a republican who praised Clinton's handling of the economy. Instead, we have Newt Gingrich who tried to take credit for a stimulus package that was passed by a democratic congress and signed by a democratic president before Newt's contract with America gang took office.
The hypocrisy is yours.
