Try using a mixture of 1/2-1 cup of vinegar and a gallon of water and sponge the mixture on the seat and let set and then soak up with a dry towel.

Can you put the seat cover in the washing machine?? Use vinegar in the washer with it if you can. If not, try a pet odor product, like Urine Gone or Nature's Miracle.

it's very hard because I've been there. Try mixing some bicarbonate of soda with some water and putting it on the seat. it's a great odour neutraliser. Then when it's dry, clean it again and spray some Febreze on.

I heard (i've never tried it) the cleaner "urinegone" that is sold on infomercials works really well. It's primarily for pet urine but it might be worth a shot.
You can probably find it at a place like Bed Bath and Beyond that sells the "as seen on tv" items.

You might try some of the products used to get rid of the smell of animal urine, for when your pet has an accident. They work very well for that purpose, and I'm sure they can't hurt.

This may take a few attempts but I would suggest you dampen the affected seat and then lay newspaper over it trying to ensure that it remains in contact over the area.
Leave overnight and repeat as necessary.
The newspaper will absorb the odour producing material in the fabric.
Good luck.

1:1 Ratio of vinegar and water in a spray bottle works wonders. But i really suggest you take the thing apart and give it a good bleaching.

"a visiting child" you say.. yeah right.
I'll answer the real question, you should do pelvic floor exercises twice a day.
(the problem is it's most likely in the foam, if you're not going to take the seat apart to clean, you may just have to keep soaking. There are some professional odor neutralizing fluids you can get)
