Love is not all: it is not meat nor drink
Nor slumber nor a roof against the rain;
Nor yet a floating spar to men that sink
And rise and sink and rise and sink again;
Love can not fill the thickened lung with breath,
Nor clean the blood, nor set the fractured bone;
Yet many a man is making friends with death
Even as I speak, for lack of love alone.
It well may be that in a difficult hour,
Pinned down by pain and moaning for release,
Or nagged by want past resolution's power,
I might be driven to sell your love for peace,
Or trade the memory of this night for food.
It well may be. I do not think I would.
-Edna St. Vincent Millay
in times of temporary insanity, love is all to me. the feeling's so great i wish i was permanently insane. but of course there are bills to pay, so i have to say Love is not all, but it's in the Top 3.

I agree, however as a very bad straight to video Angelina Joli movie stated, "love is not enough". The only man I ever thought I was in love with, the only man I ever wanted did not have what I needed. I met the man who is what I need and I do not want him. The heart never lies, but Wisconsin Water boys with sky blue eyes undo my schemes of wise. The real world is just a lie you have to rise above.

Your question is an illusion. Love is real, but it can fail us. Love can make us make stupid decisions. It can make us make good deicsions. But, it isn't all we need. We need trust, intimacy, understanding, companionship, etc.
It is just a fairy tale that love conquers all. It is temporary. It is good when we have it and bad when we lose it.
Some people are fortunate enough to love for a lifetime, but there are always disappointments and times when even in the best of relationship where a person stands alone.
Should we avoid love? Nope. It is part of the human experience. It nutures us, it teaches us, it protects us, it gives us reasons to be alive.

Rather than love being a need, I view love as an inherent property of simply human thought. Love is a perception, as is much of what we know of existence. Inherent properties include much more than love, so no I do not agree...

sure, why not. Lets convice Bush he just needs to go to Iran and give the leader a great big meaningful hug! That'll do the trick. Thats probably whats up Al Sadr's butt too. Not enough love from his mommy. lol

Honestly, when we first got married, that's about ALL we had. We didn't have a lot of money rolling in. Our first apartment was a little two-room shack that was previously a shoe repair shop.
We had our little "love shack," two guinea pigs, and each other. Life was good.

I think love keeps you sane. Love from other people, love for people and things. Of course, there are other things you need, but maintaining sanity is always a priority in my book.
Love is important because it provides meaning to life and a sense of acceptance. In Christianity, God is pure love, and the Bible does, in essence, teach that God (love) is all you need. From a psycological standpoint, the love of God does everything love needs to do- gives the feeling of acceptence and meaning. If you are loved, you are needed, and if you are needed, you have purpose. Purpose in life is central to everything else, allowing stability and sanity.

Not a chance, I am so deeply in love with my wife but so many other factors contribute to our happiness that love is not all you need. It sure helps though.
