We purchased this costly thing in hopes of the never ending hot water (which it does in fact do) however, we vented it thru the existing vent from the old 50 gallon tank which bends and exits thru the side of our house. If anything else is used (i.e the sink, dishwasher) the tankless pilot goes out. My husband thinks it's because it needs vented out thru the roof for better air circulation, what tips do you all have?
This thing is a god send, and was extremely pricey so we don't want to have to admit we went WAY abouve our means by installing it ourself so if this is a quick fix we want to try it before admitting defeat. Serious responses only.
Thanks...

USA Sounds to me as if you are experiencing a back pressure in the exhaust system when the unit has to ramp up to supply more hot water. The units I have seen are power vented, which means they have an exhaust fan. The fan needs to be operational. Check the installation manual for the unit, and make sure you have installed the venting system in accordance with the mfr's instructions. You might have too many bends, or the wrong diameter vent pipe, or it might exit the house too close to the ground (you do need a minimum ground clearance).

Good Luck

A simple bend shouldn't make the pilot go out. Is the vent size what the manufacturer recommends? Venting it through the roof will improve ventilation, just make sure he seals the hole he makes so you don't have a water problem later. And don't forget to seal the old vent hole.

I agree, the "tankless" is pricey and you should have had a pro install it. It does sound like a vent problem, a straight shot would have been better. Call in the dealer and offer apologies for not hiring him in the first place. Maybe he'll give you a pardon and, a deal.

I'd start with the owners manual to ensure I'm surpassing its supply capabilities and causing a safety to kick in. Then I would call the manufacture and ask about recalls, defects, sensors. Hot air goes up even if it has to go side ways to get there.
