You can buy it online at the source. I found that just by googling "astronaut food". Prices range from $2.95 to $7.95.

While I think NASA has tried to improve the quality of food in recent years, water weight still remains a significant concern. So I suggest that you go to a camping store and get some freeze dried camping food. I know that astronauts used to eat freeze dried food, but I'm not sure if they still do.

As some stated earlier a store specializing in camping supplies would be a good bet. Also astronauts had those meals in a toothpaste type of tube which the military still uses.

There is a ramification concerning what you seek that may be of interest. It has to do with the speed at which a person travels in space. It will take but a minute for you to read and will give you a talking point later on. It is entitled "The Twin Paradox" and is found at http://360.yahoo.com/noddarc

the food should be light, compact, and does not crumble easily, safe for the space craft, the food must not take up too much energy and time to preserve, prepare and dispose. As such they have to be light, well packaged and prepared, and shelf stable.
