I'd like to replace my VCR with a DVD/HardDrive device without having to subscribe to TiVo, etc.

Basically, I'm looking for something that has NO subscription.

Is this a feasible option? Is there a product that I can schedule to record shows and have them stored on the HardDrive and later burned onto DVD? What brand/product would you most recommend? My entertainment system primarily comprise of Panasonic components.

Thanks for your help to these questions.

By the way, I'm using Digital Cable via Cox.

I am NOT looking for any monthly/subscription fee.

Just simply wish to replace my VCR with some sort of DVD equivalent of a VCR.

Like if I choose to cancel my cable, I still wish to own the equipment.

This was mentioned in the original question.

Hi Michael,

Call Cox and get their DVR. There is no charge for programming but you will pay a monthly fee for the unit.

The cable company should have a DVR option for you
