I was in a theatre production where my character drank herself to death, and we used a jack daniel's whiskey bottle and filled it with iced tea. Man was that nasty to chug, but looked great accourding to people in the audience who envariably asked me if I was REALLY drinking Jack Daniel's on stage. I highly recommend it for your performance.

(I assume the actor is a character?) If someone is drinking to get to sleep, then it should be strong and cheap. Whiskey's a good bet.

Back in college, we just went out bar hopping and got drunk. We really didn't care what we drank. Beer, whiskey, vodka, gin, wine. It all got the job done.

Then it was coffee in the morning to get us back to semi-consciousness.

Brandy... you can use tea on stage, but make sure it's in a glass tumbler & only fill it about an inch or so... That should look pretty realistic for stage. :)

If you aren't exhausted the moment the performance adrenalin wears off, you aren't doing your job.
