How many times can people ask this question on here. Do they really expect anyone to come up with anything original that hasn't been said a million times before?!

it's either - a) there is no predefined meaning - you must find your own (the existentialist)

or b) we are here to follow the word of God (the view of faith)

or c) don't worry, do anything you want, be happy (the nihilist).

That's about your options Guys. So take your choice, but please stop asking this ''question''!!

Oh yes, please! Other questions to ban are;

What came first, the chicken or the egg?
What should I get my boyfriend for Christmas?
Am I pregnant?
What shall I eat tonight?

Either that or give me a quid for each time these questions are asked and it's my round.

This is the one section that should never ban questions, it's what philosophy is all about. We seek knowledge of the meaning of things and emotions even faith. We ask why? Why are we here is the first tentative step into the subject and they're kids and don't know how else to ask that question. New kids find this sight daily remember. Who did you ask? or should that be when! Or were you born knowing. I still don't know the answer but then neither did the hippies I asked and boy have some of us changed! We really did sit around debating life the universe and everything, could have been the weed talking but it was fun! Welcome them not ban them! Have patience we all have to start somewhere!
and of course your wrong. None of your three fit what I believe and I know many who believe differently yet still don't fit your groups.

Or is it you whose in the wrong place?

Anyone who would consider a ban is in the wrong place. Try jokes and riddles perhaps.

No it should not be banned, those of us who want to can answer it, those who don't can pass it by.
Personally I don't mind people asking this question, even though I do not believe that life has a 'meaning'. Life just is, we need to take life as it comes and get the best out of it. That is not to say that life is meaningless, there are many aspects of life that are meaningful. Many things can be fulfilling, we each need to find what is right for us individually.

I see your point, however surely it is wrong to ban a question that obviously troubles so many people. Maybe nothing original can be said on the subject, but it might be that someone just needs to see one of the options from a new angle or wants to see the range of answers. There is also the question of censorship. Surely it is unacceptable to ban this question as it would be unnecessary censorship.

The question is the basis of philosophy. No one has or will come up with an absolute answer. People have spent their whole lives and written many books trying to answer that question, so it's a little silly to ask it and expect an answer. Yet it's interesting to see what people think about it, especially people who haven't studied philosophy, or religion.
It's fascinating to see what each person's philosophy of life, or approach to life is.
I bet people can come up with more than a, b or c!

No. Why should questions be banned?

Every question has an answer, whether we all come to the same conclusion is a matter of debate.

As individuals we all seek answers to issues in everyday life. That must be one of the principles that separates us from the animal kingdom.

The theory you have mentioned in your question were created by individuals. Each and everyone of them could never come to a clear and defined answer. And yet they people were credited for their questions,

Maybe, a questioner as yourself will also fill that hall of fame.

Ur question and observation made me laugh :-)) Yes this question is asked so often. But I believe the people who ask don't really research first to see if it has been asked before. A lot of times I save myself from posting the same questions because they have been asked before.

But I do think that one can still get different viewpoints from different people.

I don't think any question should be banned. I think when people ask a philosophy question they just want to know they are not alone at that moment; they want to know other people are thinking the same thing at the same time. And there is a d) answer - good friends, good food. I see that one a lot.

Well if we start banning questions there will not be much left. How about all the "I can not write this paper, can you do it for me pleeeeaaseee???" questions? I think it is the first thing to ban.
Banning is not a solution, boycott may be better. Anyway it is well known that the answer is 42 so there is not much to say.

People keep asking Coke or Pepsi polls too.

Perhaps not ban them, but boycott them.

By the way don't forget the ever common answer to the meaning of life? 42!
