I am eighteen and I started dating when I was a sophmore in highschool so I was about 15 or 16. Sure I had litte boyfriends in junior high but we didn't even talk because we were too shy. I wouldn't be strict about it because most kids can't hold a relation long anyways. Also I would tell them that as soon as their grades start to drop they can't be with their girlfriend/boyfriend unless they are at school because there is really nothing you can do about that. Goodluck, also if you give your child respect they will respect you and try to obey you. With parenting you can't be too strict or your child will turn out like a nut case and if you are not strict enough they will be a nutcase...so you just have to find a median. Good luck again!

There are a few things that should help you decide...
When did you start dating and did you think you were too young or too old..
and how mature the kid is should probably matter
and also I think 13 or 14 is a good age cuz thats when the hormones start kickin in

I am a mother of a teenager..he's soon to be 16..he's dated 2 other girls in junior high...now he's in highschool...dated last year in grade 9 for almost a year..then they split up. As long as you talk to your kids about everything..as I do with my son, sex, drugs, all of it...there comes a time you have to let go a lil and Trust they will make the right decisions always..,and when they don't , you're there to help them pick themselves up and move on. This past year my son has alot of( gir)l-Friends* he talks with on the computer, hangs out at the mall -go see a show, a group of girls and guys - friends...they all have fun, joke around..flirt even, but for now, he says he's not interested in anyone particular girl to start a long relationship with. He wants to get his licence, get a part time job then leading to fulltime in the summer..and enjoy life. It's up to you as a parent to sit and talk openly and honestly with your kids., and allow them to live and learn. Give curfews..always know where they are going and how getting home...etc. but you have to let go and hope they follow the right path * right choices*.. COMMUNICATION HONESTY & TRUST are the Keys to a long healthy relationship* Without those you have nothing. BEST WISHES* KEEP ON SMILIN*

I personally think that 16 or 17 are great ages to start dating because teens are more "mature" by then, having been through at least two years of high school.

i had my first reay boyfriend at 14 (he was a year and a half older) and we were allowed to go on alone dates when i turned 15 (but he didnt drive so it wasnt like we were every really alone...except the time his parents THOUGH we left but we were in the attic of his garage for like 4 hrs :) )
i did have little boyfrinds before that but it was never anything serious (half the time it was just so i could say i had one and we never even talked)
my kids (who are 2,4, and 6) i think i will allow my boys to date at about 15, my daughter, 16 but only on group or chaperoned dates...i know it is a double standard, but i think a girl is more likely to be pressured into doing something she isnt ready for)

I'm not a teenager, but my parents let me start dating at 15 3/4...it was supposed to be 16, but I was a Sophomore and was asked to prom.
My parents were strict but I honestly didn't resent it. It was the rule. My brother and sister were 16 also.

What age did you start dating?
What do you think is fair?
And it always depends on the situation. I'd say around 15-16 though.
Good luck figuring that one out :)
