Actually they are two different cases.

The pentagon flat out lied about Tillman.

The Lynch story is different.

Not one media outlet can show where any administration or DOD member ever made those comments about Lynch.

The whole Lynch saga started after a Washington Post story.

The other media outlets then repeated the Washington Post story, and when it came out to be false, they blamed the Pentagon, instead of the Washington Post.

Why I believe the Washington Post just made the story up.

Their story was posted in the news paper before Lynch was rescued, all other members of Lynch's unit with her that day, were killed in action.

So no one had any idea what transpired after the ambush.

There is no way for anyone to know just what Lynch did that day.

The only actual pentagon news release about Lynch that I have read or seen, was the short video when they grabbed her from the Iraqi hospital.

.
If anyone can show me any Pentagon news releases where any member publicly stated any part of the Washington Post story, I'd love to see them.

It's big time propaganda of the worst kind. The media are 100% responsible (but not more responsible than the govt.) because they simply parroted the lie without even bothering to check for proof. They did this with the lies about the WMDs in Iraq and countless other occasions as well.

Iwo Jima was proof of American War Propaganda.

Rent Flags of Our Fathers. They were capable of this garbage back in WWII. Lynch and Tillman were no exception.

The Afghanis have repeatedly said that there were no Al Qaeda troops around when Tillman was shot and Bush needed a martyr figure to sell.

yes, proof indeed, but don't blame the press, they only reported what the military released for information. The Administration has done it's best to make these wars look "good" even to the point of lying about how soldiers died. I've known for a long time that they have been deceiving the US about the truths surrounding Iraq and Afghanistan but they stooped pretty low this time. Looks like they forgot to get rid of the witnesses this go-around.

Why would the media be responsible for the lies they repeated that were told to them by people in the US Government? If you listen to Tillman and Lynch's stories you will find that the government/military put out the lies, the media just reported what they said.

I don't think that it's all to blame on the media by any sense. The Bush Administration and the Army needed Heroes to wave in front of the Nation to sway us into looking away from the unjust war in Iraq. The Army needed Heroes to help them in their recruiting efforts. What the media did was to allow themselves to be used by the fore mentioned organizations instead of investigating they turned lazy.
