I was in a fast food joint and had sat down to eat. There were a lot of people and this woman with her child. The child was being loud and rowdy, throwing stuff and screaming. The mother kept telling her to be quit and sit down. She told her many times to sit down, to stop, to be quiet but the girl didn't listen and in one occation told the mom to shut up. So the mom grabbed the child took her to the car and spanked her in her butt and no where else, everyone in the joint saw it. I thought to myself "It's about damn time" while these two ladies were like "Oh my god, someone call the cops" and "I can't believe she hit her, that's just wrong". Needless to say no one called the cops but the two ladies were very upset because no one called anyone and as they left they said "You all should be ashamed of yourselves". Would you have called the police on the lady?

Interesting, isn't it, that the two ladies who objected were going "Someone call the cops" and were then all indignant because no one else did. If they were so shocked, why didn't they make the call themselves?

As for the mother, sounds like she did just what was needed. Good for her.

No. You have no grounds to call the police unless the mother/father is actually beating the child. My neighbor is a cop and he said that as long as the hitting is on the butt and doesn't leave bruises there's nothing they can do about it 'cause its perfectly legal. Any child who acts like that in public deserves to have their butt spanked. And people wonder why children are so spoiled and rotten these days...

No, While I don't believe physical punishment is a necessity to raise a good kid, unless the person was truly causing physical harm to the child it wouldn't warrant calling the authorities. Sometimes parents can be to lenient but it goes both ways, many parents can be borderline abusive when dishing out punishment. If it was just a spanking i probably wouldn't have paid much attention and minded my business.

I would not have called the police. I have a son who is almost three and he can be a MONSTER sometimes, and once in a while I have had to resort to spanking his bum. Many people may be against it, and often they are people who don't have kids of their own, and if you are a parent who doesn't do it, then great.
Now, had she whalloped the girl in the face or punched her in the stomach I would be right there protecting the little girl and calling the cops.

That mother did what she was supposed to do and I applaud her for it. She didn't turn into a zombie, like I see most mothers do, and let their child get away with murder - metaphorically speaking.

And people wonder why children are so corrupt. A lot has to do with the fact that this "find more positive alternatives to spanking or you'll damage their itty-bity wittle egos" crap has become so popular.

It's sad because now, not a lot of people don't know the difference between abuse and punishment. I'm sorry, but theirs a huge difference between a mother putting her child's foot in a boiling pot of water and spanking.

The woman obviously has parenting issues to begin with...if a parents has control of a child to begin with there is no need to spank...and most people spank their kids because they become frustruated and that is NOT the best time to spank...no I wouldn't call the police as long as she was just using her hand...but I don't think it is right...hitting another is never a way to solve problems....

Not on that occasion. Spare the rod spoil the child.

There is a line to be crossed. If the child wasnt misbehaving & the mom was really going at it, I prob. would. But if my daughter were to be acting like that, id spank her too.

I would say no. The police aren't there to settle family trifles. There are more pressing matters out there.

This happened to an aunt of mine at a public pool. She was so embarrassed and I felt so bad for her.

No! Thats why kids today are so out of control and commiting crimes! Time out? Count to ten? How about crack your little aXX and do what I said? A belt, a switch, a paddle never hurt nobody and made you know what you were going to do! This is why so many people don't have kids anymore, because its nonsense and they think they can do whatever they want. Whoop that aXX!

I wouldn't call the police. I'd congratulate the mother for being a good parent. Bring on the thumbs down, I don't care! :-)
