I have been taunted by bullies in school and outside of school all my life. And I'll be 28 this year. I guess I will never understand what bullies get from being rude to others. Maybe they are lacking something in their own lives, and instead of trying to fix their own screwed up life, they act out on others to get some sort of sick satisfaction. But it never lasts, does it?

Yep! My parents said that people tease others for the satisfaction they get from seeing them uncomfortable. They advised that we give a pleasant response so that the teasers would get bored and give up. I tried it and am still practicing it. Interestingly enough, it works!

Yes. I think they're teaching more effective strategies today, but I know my son gets very riled up about teasing and I imagine the guys that tease him find this pretty rewarding.

You hear a lot of successful people say, "I was picked on as a kid.."
You almost never hear a successful person say, "I was the bully...."
