They're letting out the emotions they've had to hold back during the entire offseason. Many who go to the draft treat it like a football game (since they miss football by then), so they either cheer or boo based on the selection. But yeah, your point makes sense.

Because each and every knucklehead football fan is a better GM and coach than all the GMs and coaches in the league. ;) In addition, a good bit of booing comes from the fans of rival teams to the team currently picking (unless it's the Jets or Raiders, in which case it's mostly their own fans.)
Just go to any draft message board & you will witness fans almost coming to blows over whom their favorite team "needs to pick" or else face a decade of losing records and humiliation. How so many fans come to overinflate the value of their own opinions regarding a sport they never played professionally is beyond me.
Off the top of my head, there are four aspects that support continued booing at the NFL Draft:
1 - the players chosen in the first round may need a reality check/some humilty to offset the ego boost that comes with being a first round pick;
2 - the players better get used to booing, cuz they're going to hear a lot of it even when they have a winning record;
3 - Chris Berman announcing the picks on ESPN before they actually happen;
4 - Mel Kiper's hair.

Because the fans always know more than the team GMs...especially if that GM's name is Matt Millen.
I know what you mean though, I remember when Eagles fans booed the Donovan McNabb selection because they wanted Ricky Williams instead. Nice call, Philly.

I think the Jets fan do it often, mainly cause their team continuously make bad decisions, and the draft is in New York. Mario Williams was a bad decision for the Texans.

The fans arent saying the player is bad, they are just saying that there is another player that they would like better. Except in the case of fans from Philly, bunch of morons out there. These people boo'ed at Santa Claus when he came out at one of their games. I mean honestly who boos at Santa. They are just total morons. But as for booing other players they just are saying that there are other players that they would have rather them taken, not usually the player himself.

They were dissapointed. Texans fans all wanted Reggie Bush. You could hear the chants immediately after the season ended! The Houstan Texans organization knew exactly what the fans wanted but they followed what they wanted.

Some fans are caught up on one player they want their team to draft. If they don't like the player their team drafts, they boo.

because the player selected is one they probably never hear before or they just don't think the player is that talented.
