It has temperatures similar to the earth and twice the gravity. Other than that we know nothing. It may have no atmosphere or it may have seas of sulphuric acid. Also at space shuttle speeds, it's 800,000 years away

We have found many planets, but most are huge gas planets like Jupiter. This one in the news today is the first one they have found that is around the size of the earth and has similar temperatures, which liquid water could possibly be present. This is a key factor to see if life could exist. We will probably never know what the atmosphere or surface looks like, or if there is life there.

It's orbiting a star 20 light years away and although the star is not as hot as our sun, the planet is close enough to it, to have a temperature between 0 + 40 centigrade. The star is called Glieve and I think they're calling the planet Grieve 518. It is assumed that at that temperature there is the likeihood of water and if there's water there may also be some form of life.

Top Contributor Gene said:'....at the space shuttle speed'. Space Shuttle was designed for LEO, low earth orbit exploration only. It was not intended to use to reach a newly discovered planet and travel that great distant.
This new planet, may be thought about it for possible living there. But how to conquer the long distant???
