Shouldn't we have curfews in the UK that mean children aged 8-11 are indoors or in the company of an adult by 8pm and 11-15 year olds by 9pm? Enforced by law, fining or imprisoning parents. What do you think, would it work? Is it a good idea?

I am not personally in favor of curfews, but in some communities I can see how some would be in favor of them...

Well if your into overburdaning and already congested juvinile court system as well as pressuring a police force already under fire for their profiling ideology and activities(not just limited to racial profiling) not to mention turning over your parental rights as well as power to a state agency then sure this should work out great for you
but I offer you one example of parents trusting a govenment establishment to do some of their parenting in the form of the F.C.C's so called "video game rating system"
It was a waste of about 300 million(over 5years) dollars to enact laws that NO ONE fallows,
the video game companies place ratings on games so that parents can judge weather it is appropriate for thier child,
stores are "supposed to" not sell anything with a certian rating to a "minor" and (personally I don't and wont)
the kids go home crying and screaming to mommy and daddy,
and the parents go buy the damn game anyway with out reading the rating that the game has
2 tears later little jonny shows up to 4th grade and shoots the 5th grader that pushed him down on the playground yesterday
and media coverage insues blaming the "evil video game companies" that wont do "anything about the violance in thier games"

NO! Let the little brats run wild. Children have the right to be children and your being a JERK! These rules should be set by the parents not society, and each kid has a different maturity level. If you restrain the mature ones with the lesser ones you will reduce both of there growth.

No. There are many things that could be law and aren't. This is one of those. Parents should have control over their children and take FULL responsibility for whatever their children are doing out at those times. It is not the governments job to be babysitting children. It hasn't enough time to deal with the big children. More laws means more power. We do not need government to have more power then which it already has.

My town has a 10pm curfew and it is angering a lot of parents because they have to pick up their kids from school events. And we still have a problem with petty crime and vandalism.
Curfews are another form of "do nothing" laws.

Imprisoning parents for curfew infractions???? Wow sounds a little extreme to me. Maybe more parent education is needed so their kids grow up to be responsible citizens that don't need a curfew??

I'm so glad you're not an American. I like the idea of parents being responsible for their children, not the state. You just want to throw away what little freedom you've got, hmm?

That's pretty early. You try getting 15-year-old in by 9.
