love these answers 1st of all they did not stop making this car. Depends on how much you like your car and what would you rather spend? $20-$30k for a new car. Get a used one and have the chance of the same thing happening or fix it. I would go by your financial means. If you have the money to get it repaired then that would be the best option. But I would do some checking around that price sounds a little steep. A friend of mine just replaced his 3400 V-6 in his Chevy Venture. He paid $2800 for a rebuilt motor from Napa and paid about $700 to have it installed. But I guess it depends on what part of the country you live in. Any way say you take out a loan for $4k. That is alot cheaper than a new car and now you know exactly what you have with the car.

First if the rest of the car is in good condition being that is an 02 I wouldnt think that it looks very bad, but you never know, anyways than I would go witht he GM rebuilt engine just because of the warranty guarntee not only that you know that it was rebuilt by GM trained mechanics meaning that it would have to pass a number of tests before they sold it. Ive seen people have the same options and take the last one than right after that first year they ran into alot of problems and needed to replace the motor again. I'd go with the GM certified rebuilt engine

2002 is that the newer style one or the long police type one. if its the new style it may not be worth it, if its the older style one i would put a used engine in it. but you can find a cheaper used engine than that whatever style it is. go to junkyarddog.com and see what they come back for a used engine. most will have warranties with them. call around and see what other shop are going to charge.
