I am looking for a new processor and motherboard< since my current board will not support it.

Which one is better?

AMD Athlon 64 X2 (AM2)
X2 6000+ / 3.00GHz Socket AM2 1000MHz (2000 MT/s)
or
Intel Core 2 Duo (775)
E6300 / 1.86GHz Socket 775 1066MHz

Any suggestions?

Also what is the difference between a dual core and a dual processor?

Dual core processos means a processor with two cores. Dual processor could refer to having two seperate processors, honestly more often than not people just say that by mistake instead of dual core processor. Both of these are dual core processors, and to correct what one guy said, both are 64 bit.

Now overall, Core 2 Duos are better than the Athlon 64 X2s, but you are looking at two specific processors. These two happen to be AMDs top Athlon 64 X2, the 6000+, and the E6300, which is near the bottom of the Core 2 Duo line. So the correct answer to this specific question is, the 6000+ would be better, and by a fairly decent margin. However for the same price as the 6000+, you could get the Core 2 Duo E6600, which is slightly superior to the 6000+. Hope this makes sense, if you need further info send me an email.

this will be heavily disputed, but i'd say the Athlon 64.

they're both going to be WAY fast.

the core 2 duo structure is a bit faster than athlon x2's structure, but that athlon is a higher end processor and it SCREAMS.

also, the athlon 64 x2 is 64bit, which will enable it to do more in the near future. intel core 2 duo only emulates 64bit.

if it were me... i'd go with the athlon. i've worked in computers for several years now and i would definitely stick with that athlon.

also, almost everyone who has posted so far is confused.

they are both one processor with two cores.

that is basically like a processor stacked on a processor, and it means it's fast.

and AMD and intel take turns being "top of the line." they compare very well right now, but intel still does not have a home-user level 64bit processor available.

dual core and dual processor are NOT the same things.

I believe that AMD processor would be better then that specific Core 2 Duo processor. (I think the E6600 and up beat all the current AMD processors.) Keep in mind you might need new memory and/or a new video card when getting a new motherboard.

Dual Core is two CPUs built into one chip.

Dual Processor can refer to a Dual Core system or to a system with two seperate CPUs. (The latter used more for servers and stuff then home PCs.) Multi-CPU systems (and I'm not just talking 2-4 CPUs, more like dozens up to thousands) have been around longer then Dual Core systems.

Your processor is an 8/10 AMD (more desirable Micro-instruments) processors are reasonably-priced and that they use much less battery capacity than Intel. Intel processors on the different hand, %. a miles better punch and have a particularly greater beneficial FSB (front facet Bus) than AMD. AMD Turion sixty 4 X2 TL-50 is such as the Intel center 2 Duo E4000 (approximate) My opinion: in case you like max battery existence, bypass with AMD; in case you like capacity, bypass with Intel

Okay, the AMD processor is by FAR the better one of the two!

Even though the Intel is dual core not all programs actually take advantage of it.

Dual core and dual processor are the same thing

Not only that, but the AMD is a 64 bit processor which will be compatibel with future software and hardware. Most things now run on 32 bit, but 64 is the next step.

It is up to you, but overall the AMD wins in my book.

Good Luck!

dual core and dual processor are the same thing basically, go with Core 2 Duo, it'll blow your mind away, there's basically nothing that AMD has right now that compete's with Intel. Btw, don't look at the BUS speed (the GHz stuff), before, Intel depended on it while AMD didn't as much, but AMD still fought hard, but now Intel's core 2 duo doesn't have as much BUS speed, but still kick's hard ***.

The AMD is better.

A dual core processor is a single processor with two cores. Dual processors is two processors. You could have dual dual-core processors!
