I researched this question thoroughly before I made my purchase and I am totally confident that I now have the best monitor on the market: The Samsung SyncMaster 226BW. 2ms vs. 5ms for most others, 3000:1 contrast ratio vs 800:1 for most others.

I bought it at Best Buy and opened the box as soon as the sale was complete. It was the dreaded A Panel. However, the floor display unit was an S Panel so I insisted that they give me that one. The concensus of opinion among the reviews I read is that the A panel is inferior to the S panel.

At any rate, the picture is absolutely stunning! I love it and you will too.

From my personal experience, Samsung, Viewsonic, Acer and NEC make some really good 22" panels.

The thing is, that most of them use the same panel from the same vendor, the only difference is the exterior casing and some of the power and inverter components.

Sceptre has a 22" LCD Monitor that has a 2ms response time and newegg has it for $249.00. The company has been around, but not really mainstream until now, a lot of Airlines use the touch screen version of their monitors.

best depends on how much your willing to spend and exactly what needs you have to be met.
The term "best" is subjective, so I'd say its up to you.
