how can I keep him from pushing it out?

well for my babies I never did push it in all the way...I would just hold the tip in for a little bit and he would start pooping after a couple of minutes....that way he wasnt uncomfortable with that waxy thing in his little butt..maybe I was just a paranoid mommy, but just putting it in a tiny bit worked great for me

but I would only recommend doing this if your baby is really constipated...my boys both suffered from constipation with HARD HARD stools...maybe try switching your formula...especially if you use soy...soy is BAD for constipation (I ended up using Alimentum)...or if your breastfeeding call your doctor and see what he says first, but mine always said to go ahead with the suppository after a couple of days...good luck!

I remember my mom having to give my sister one when she was little. You have to bend the baby over your lap/knee, lubricate the area a little and insert the suppository (my mom always used her fingers to hold the suppository in, but you could use another method). Hold it in for about a minute. Be prepared for your son to cry. Maybe give him his pacifier while you're giving him the suppository. Good luck!

just hold it in for a minute or so. Let him watch the mobile or play with a toy on the changing table and keep your finger over the suppository.

wet the suppository and insert it then hold the babies little butt cheeks together, you won't have to do this long the whole thing doesn't have to melt just enough to get some of the meds. drs. know the whole thing is not going to stay in there so it doesn't take it all to work

If he has a history of pushing it out, you may indeed have to push it in deep and then hold it in with your finger (a bit yuck, I know!)
Don't use the q-tip as an insertion aid, that's really not good for a baby!

i agree with Melissa, call the doctor first. If they agree with giving him one...this is what you do....

Lay him on his stomach over your knees. gently pull his buttock cheeks apart and insert the suppository into the rectum. using a q-tip, gently push the suppository in.
with my son, it took about 5 mintues and you could smell the outcome.
please be VERY careful. babies hate this and will wiggle like crazy

good luck

Push it into his bobo hole and then you are going to have sit hold his butt cheeks shut for about five minutes.

Check with the doctor before doing this. He OR She will tell you how, if necessary.
