If one can command respect, give respect and get his/her people to do anything for them, then they are what is known as a "great leader".
Was he a great president? Probably not - I don't know for sure. But he was a leader that commanded great respect. That will get you far. . .

Not sure what is plan to end the Cold War was - even McNamara didn't mention that..... while he was trying to whitewash his ineptness by suggesting that JFK was going to pull out of Vietnam.....
