I have heard some argue that the anti-war protesters are undermining the troops, because they are bad for their morale. Why does anyone honestly think that the soldiers give a toss about what those of us at home have to say? They're on the front lines, risking life and limb, so I seriously doubt that the opinions of the anti-war protesters are what's on their minds.

They aren't sure at all. It's just rhetoric and a failure to even consider the opposing viewpoint.

The way I see it, I am supporting the troops by wanting to see them come home.

Example, I had a table this past Christmas at the restaurant where I work and they are from out of town, but were telling me how they come there every year at Christmas. However, they missed last Christmas because their son was killed in Iraq. They proceeded to show me a picture of him and his 5 year old son. They also told me how proud they were that I was planning on attending an anti-war rally in the near future for they are opposed to any more sons and fathers and mothers and daughters and wives and husbands dying needlessly in an unjust war. And this was from parents who just lost their son. I couldn't help but cry and had to excuse myself for a moment. So, you see, in my eyes, I AM supporting the troops. There are many people who don't wish to see anymore people die just so that Bush and his buddies can get richer. In fact, It makes me sick to my stomach.

You'll have to excuse me now.....

The powers that be want us to think that those that are serving our country are like our hometown sports team.
Without us cheering them on they won't win.
Truth is they are in the military and are ordered to fight. So what they hear about us not wanting them there and to come home really has no bearing on how well they fight.
We get told the anti-war people hurt their morale. But for the Pentagon to extend their stay 3 more months really doesn't affect their morale that much.
You be the judge!

In case you haven't noticed, there isn't a "front line" anymore. The troops are fighting inside of cities, instead of trenches. And CNN is broadcasting on a satellite. So, when they are done fighting for the day, or week, they can turn on the TV and hear "The war in Iraq is already lost"

I am sure that REALLY boosts their morale.

You are wrong about this. It is pretty obvious that you don't know anyone who is or has been there, because if you did, you would know that it is very important for them to feel that their country supports them in what they do. The message that someone like Reid sends, that the war is lost, is very demoralizing. People have a right to their feelings and to say what they want, but they just need to use their words responsibly. That the Senate Minority leader would say something like that is inexcusable.

Actually they do care. As a long time Army wife, who has been through numerous deployments, yes they do care.
But you so called "protestors" don't give a damn about the troops. If you did you would get your heads out of your asses and be proactive as opposed to reactive. Do you really think holding signs that say "baby killer" on them makes the soldiers feel better? Or when they have to explain during an extremely staticy 5 min phone call to their children that daddy isn't shooting people for fun or money, even though thats what the people sitting at the next table at the restaraunt said.
Or when they ask, mommy...why are those people holding the signs outside that funeral?
How do you think that feels? It doesn't help thats for damn sure. When they know that those "protestors" are making their families lives hell. Can you explain to my 3yr old your stance on her father? I'm sure that would make him feel much better.

ACTUALLY, being in a large military family it does affect morale. These troops are concerned they will be getting the same welcome and treatment the Vietnam vets got (and continue to get) when they return. Many of the troops there are exerienecing something on a completley different perspective and platform then we are. They are seeing the improvements in this nation, they are protecting many women and children on these streets and killing more Alcaida there to help ensure the attacks on us will be minimal. Whether you agree or disagree on the war support the troops. If they are "risking life and limb" that's more than griping on YAnswers isn't it? I think that deserves a whole lot of credit and respect.

I think, that "support our troops" is just a slogan. Who doesn't wish for them to come home safe. People have fought and died for our right to say that we don't agree with whats happening. My brother is in the military,I don't think we should be fighting in Iraq,I support my brother. Besides guys in the military are hot.

Because they can't think beyond the basic dogma that was force fed to them by their parents. I know that comes off as harsh, but what country to they think this is? This is AMERICA, and in America you have the right to free speech, you have the right to assemble peaceably, you have the right to not agree with the government. That is how a majority is created. A minority is simple a majority without sufficient membership. There is NO difference. If they really believe in silencing the minority then they might as well silence themselves, too, because without these freedoms we're lost.
