Morning sickness is your body responding to the HCG hormone which is depressing your body's attempts to attack the foreign object in your body. It really has nothng to do with genetics. Every woman responds differently to it.

There are lots of ways to live with it, but not stop or prevent it. I don't think it's genetic--it's just how your body handles hormones: for example, when I started taking the pill many years ago, I was sick to my stomach for a solid month, which means I was more likely to have morning sickness (and I did...ew).
The things that helped me feel better: do not lie around. It only makes you feel worse.
Ginger tea and a couple of saltines in bed before I got up helped.
Don't hold back if you need to throw up, it does help.
Stay COOL, if you are too warm it can make you feel more sick.
Try very weak tea 1 hour after eating anything substantial, it will help you digest.
B6 made me sicker!
Seabands didn't do much for me.
High-carb snacks stayed down better than anything else.
Avoid very spicy foods.
Take your folic acid at night.
Good luck!

I think it just depends on the person and the way your body reacts to the hormones. My mom had bad morning sickness and I got none what so ever. (thank goodness) I know eating small light meals will help, if you do not let your belly get empty. Before you get out of bed eat some saltine crackers. Those are supposed to help.

you just have to listen to your body.... I only got sick when I drank certain drinks or if i ate too much...
I learned to first of all, never go from an empty stomach to a full stomach very fast... I actually like to keep a little something in my stomach at all times because empty stomach while pregnant is not fun!
I also learned, I cant drink orange juice on an empty stomach either... or grape juice for that matter...
and i do not think it is genetic, because my mom said she got sick for like a month with me and my sister... and I only got sick a few times that I mentioned...
Good Luck, and if it gets so bad that you are dehydrated or just cant function, tell your doctor and he/she should be able to prescribe something to help you.
