I personally believe people are not born gay. For the record I am gay, so i you though this was going to be another bigot flaming the gay questions you're wrong.
I fee that homosexuality is a biological orientation not to be confused with a mysterious gay gene that is passed on to children. Children are born innocent and they develop mentally and physically into the adults they will be.
If this is a little confusing look at it this way. Some people write with their right hands and some write with their left. And in some cases they write with both. Now generally people don't choose what hand to write with and children are not born with the motor skills to handle a tool to write with. Its just something that occurs. Thats why its classified as a biological orientation. I believe homosexuality is the same way.
Am i right or does my theory need some serious revising?

Sexual behavior is learned. People are not born homosexual any more than people are born heterosexual. Homosexuality isn't wrong, in my opinion. I am simply saying that no one is BORN homosexual. There is no conclusive scientific evidence that sexuality is inborn. Science actually confirms just how COMPLEX human behavior is more so than isolating the causes of it. This doesn't mean that it's a conscious choice. Sexuality ISN'T a conscious choice. Various factors determine whether or not someone becomes heterosexual, bi-sexual, or homosexual. But it isn't something inborn either. Even the gay and pro-gay press acknowledges the problems with the "born gay" arguement.

You have such a mild manner about the way you speak with your words, I appreciate that. At any rate I do agree that people are not born gay although some would argue that we are wrong. On the other hand, I find it interesting that you feel homosexuality is of biological orientation, since it is basically saying the same thing as being born gay. Biological orientation really means that the origin of a homosexual person is in the genes or hereditary which would make your beginning assertion a contradictory statement.

Great question!!!
I love the Biological orientation its rock solid logic. Why am I right handed who cares you are. why are people gay who cares they are. Wow if we all could get our heads around that then maybe we could as a collective society stop fighting about things that just don't matter and start working on things like curing transsexualism ok a little selfish there but i bet we could do many great things if we all could just get along.
Also not being gay and never feeling that i was gay I can say with 4000% confidence I was born a woman with boy parts that was no choice my friend ;)

I LOVE YOU! FINALLY someone sees it MY way!!! lol. Seriously, i've had this strong belief that no one is born anything. We are all born innocent infants without ANY sexual desires or preferences. And then as we grow older and start experimenting & sharing experiences with the opposite and or the same sex, we come into our own. We come to realize our preferences and needs. There is no way that we know any of this when we are first born! Now im not saying that it's a conscious choice per se to be homosexual. I do believe that once you figure out that you just dont have that innate attraction to the opposite sex, you really can't do much about it! It's there. Its just what you prefer. You can then CHOOSE to live your own life happily and for yourself, or you can CHOOSE to not act on your desires and live a miserable life in denial.
So yes, your theory is intelligent and you have me to back you up on it!!! lol :-)

You've ignored a couple of things:
1. People's "handedness" is a good metaphor for sexual orientation, but the issue arises, where does handedness come from? There is a lot of evidence that it comes from hormonal and nutritional changes during a particular period of development in the womb. So even though children are not born writing with either their write or left hand, the tendency toward a particular hand-orientation is already in place upon birth. Similarly, until someone is old enough to display or experience sexual urges, their sexual orientation will not be discoverable, although its foundation is already in place.
2. There is a strong correlation in the size of hypothalamus in the brain and male homosexuality. This is also found to be true in sheep, which are being studied for homosexuality for farming purposes. While some fundamentalist Christians suggest that hypothalamuses may shrink once gay sex begins, that is MUCH less likely than the hypothalamus of gay men developing to be a smaller size, which, oddly enough, is much more like the size of they hypothalamus in women.
So consider what you are saying. People are not born displaying either handedness or sexual orientation. They are also not born displaying intelligence or a tendency toward high cholesterol, either, but both have a strong genetic component. Only after years of development do these tendencies arise to the point where they can be observed, but their presence at birth in some nascent condition are strongly suggested by the evidence.

People are born left- or right-handed and gays are don't acquire their characteristics after birth.
I wonder how a gay man can come to any other conclusion. But apparently you have. I'd be interested in knowing how you came to the conclusion that gay characteristics are acquired when science has determined that even the foundations of personality are formed in the womb.

Actually people ARE born right or left handed... have you ever seen someone's writing who was "left handed" but their parents forced them to write with their right hand? (There used to be a big stigma attached to being left handed and parents would force them not to write with that hand) Their writing is AWFUL, it looks like they write with their feet generally. So I think your supporting evidence here isn't very well researched. ;)
And no, I think you are 100% wrong with this theory. In fact you should do more research on transgendered individuals... many of them knew as far back as they could remember that they were always confused about their gender. They were born male for example, yet always identified as female, even without any unusual circumstances that would ever have caused them to feel such an extreme thought at the age of 4 or 5...

Well, I was born gay. At least I'm assuming that's the reason I had crushes on girls only throughout my life, starting at a very, very young age. Never have I had interest in men. Sorry buddy, I guess that doesn't go with your theory. Not to say you're completely wrong, but in my case you are.

Even the ultra conservative president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary has said that scientific research "points to some level of biological causation" for homosexuality & "I am absolutely confident that a large number of homosexuals are telling the truth when they say they did not choose that orientation."
An October 2004 scientific research publication stated that scientists at the University of Padua have found that women tend to have more children when they inherit the same genetic factors linked to homosexuality in men. This fertility boost more than compensates for the lack of offspring fathered by gay men, and keeps the “gay” genetic factors in circulation.
Another study published in Human Genetics in February 2006 examined X chromosome inactivation in mothers of gay sons and mothers whose sons were not gay. Researchers found extreme differences between women who had gay sons and women who did not.
A Canadian university study published in June of 2006 stated that, although researchers have known for years that a man's likelihood of being gay rises with the number of older biological brothers, that the new study found that the so-called "fraternal birth order effect" persists even if gay men were raised away from their biological families.
No unbiased scientific research has shown that being gay occurs after birth. The only people who say that being gay is a choice are some Christians who say that they went from gay to straight when in reality they were not gay to begin with and were likely bisexual.

I hear you. just because we don't realize why we do things does not mean we havn't made a choice or that we aren't products of society.
They say i never chose to be gay, no one chose to be bulimic, it's all in the mind. There are physical things connected to the mind but i've never seen any studies on this "gay gene"
We could all always use some refinement. For example if i cared i could run this through spell check and consider my thoughts more carefully but i won't.
