My mother tongue is German, and so my English might not sound good enough for the ears of an English native.

So you wanted to know about the good things Hitler did?

Oh he did a lot of good things, but just things to the profit of "Aryan" bigots who dreamt of a Germany/Europe where there was no freedom of speech/Freedom of opinion, where those who didn't look like "Germanic" enough and those who opposed his ideals had to work and to die in cruel concentration camps (e.g. Auschwitz)

Some people would say the only good thing he has done was to kill himself in April 1945, but i think that this was only a easy way out for him to prevent himself from a slow and much rougher punishment he deserved.

And by the way, guys, the Autobahn was NOT an Invention of Hitler, or any other Nazi. The Idea for that kind of transport net was developed by the German government in the 1920 years, many years before Hitler overtook Germany. The only credit he "deserves" is that he was the first who built the Autobahn.

And some guy stated above that Hitler gave jobs to the Germans, yup that is right... After Millions of German soldiers died in WWII the German women had to work in German factories for a very low income, while the Jews, Gypsies had to work in the concentrations camps, and they didn't get any money at alll.

The good things that Hitler did were completely overshadowed by the evil he wrought later. As your first few responses show, most don't even know about it.

If Hitler had died in his sleep in 1938 or so, he would likely be revered as one of Germany's greatest leaders. But he turned out to be a monster that inflicted great suffering on the world, and that's all people want to remember.

Its just one of those times when you have to stand back and scratch your head isn't it? Lets see if I can remember Hitler's good acts. Oh yeah that year he rang the bell for the Salvation Army in front of the Reichstag. And then the blood drive but wait that might not count cuz he didn't give blood he took it. And the year he mowed the lawn the little old lady on a pension, yeah there was that. And then things went a little darker and he killed 6 million Jews in the ovens...that might have offset the lawn mowing and things. Guess I don't have anything good to say about Adolf.

Nothing I am afraid,. The man was evil! According to the intervioew with paula Hitler, his siter, Hitler used to beat her up. Also he flunked math and physics and bl;amed it as the jewish science. He did not understand sceince and , firtunately m, as the result, thenuclear scientists in germany were ignored for the most part. Hitler was not a good student according to Paula , so whatever happened under his rule would have happened without him . And, contrary to what one person mentionned earluier here, Social Security was established about the time Hitler was bormn, that is Bismarck, then the Prime Minister under the Emperor, is the one who had the idea of Social Security. Bismarck also is responsible for maintaining Peace in Europe for many years. Germany did not exist until 1871. Then it became an empire with emperors as its head. Only after the defeat of Germany in World War one did Germany become a Republic. Hitler was not a German, but an Austrian/ He hated the other ethnic groups in the Austro- Hungarain Empire. He did not want to be in the Austrain Army in World War One and fled to Germany when he declined to register for the draft in Austria. He did not want to serve in the Austrian Army with others whom he considered already then as subhumans.Bear in mind, that Hitler in Austria was a nobody. He did not relish to work and sold his drawings on the street and lived in flop houses. Basically he had nothing to show for accomplishment and thus blamed others. As often the lowest in Society will naturally hate others . For Hitler , it was those who were not germanic in Austria. That is somehow he had to find a way to fell superior to other people,in spite of his low life status. Today, i am afraid,it seems to me,human nature has not changed, that still happens where persons like him will do anything such as committing hateful acts blaming others for their own shortcomings, the latest seen in the Virginia Tech tragedy. To Hitler, who else but the usual historical scapegoats: The Jews.

While it's hard to remember other "useful" things Hitler did (since he WAS a mass-murdering --ckhead) technolgocially speaking even the most ardent opposers of Hitler have to admit that Germany was an intellectual powerhouse during the early part of the 20th century. Hitler's regime invented the Olympics in the way we know them today, television syndication, and modern millitary warfare to name just a few things. Don't get me wrong--the Holocaust is his legacy of death and pure vile, but as a country they almost had the atomic bomb as fast as the Americans, if it had not been for some German defecting scienctists, they almost certainly would have succeeded.

It's important, I think, to remember both the negative and positive aspect of History--no matter how vile.

Well he did build the Autobahn (no, not personally) but even that was for military purposes. Gen Eisenhower was so impressed by it that when he became president he ordered construction of the federal interstate system, so in a way we owe our ability to drive all over the country on superslabs to Adolf Hitler. All the bad stuff he is responsible for sort of outweighs all that though.

Like what? Most of the positive things that Germany accomplished (like the Autobahns and economic growth) were either other peoples' ideas or achieved at the cost of the lives, property and well-being of large sections of the population of Germany and neighbouring states.

Some people, the so-called racial comrades, the Germans he approved of, might have felt better and some people made a lot of money and wielded a lot of power. But other people paid for it.

Restored health to German economy.

Ended the rediculous inflation problem in Germany.
