The best time to introduce a sippy cup is around 6 or 7 months old when you introduce baby foods. You offer a little water with each meal. Up until then there is no need to give a baby water in a cup at all.The only thing a baby needs for the first 6 months is breastmilk or formula, and that has all the water in it a baby needs.

I have found the pigeon brand 'mag mag' cup the best. It starts off using the teat from the bottle but it is a cup and has handles, then you can buy the soft spout and then finally the straw. Its the cup that grows with your baby. After using bottles and this cup, I see no need to even use bottles. I have tried others but the liquid seems to just flow out or the straw is hard. I use them for all my daughters milk & water feeds except the last bottle at night.

Since my son was 4 months he has used a cup, he loves them. I have the Gerber NUK cup and also the Nuby infant cups. They have silicon tops that are similar to a bottle nipple so they still have to suck on it some to get it out. They are great because they do not leak at all unless the child is trying to get the water out. My son flings his around all of the time and I never have a mess. I got both of the cups at Walmart, hope it helps.

My daughter is 5 months old and I first gave her a Nubby sippy cup at 4 months old. I had one that was shaped like a bottle and one that was a cup, but they both had the silicone nipple which was really flexible. My daughter loved both of them and she of course missed her mouth most of the time or spit it out after she got it out of the cup. But hey she is learning so at least I know she doesn't mind trying. So hopefully that helps some. Good Luck!!

Your daughter doesn't need a cup right now and can get enough liquids through her breastmilk or formula. My daughter is five months and likes to try to drink everything I drink, so I put water in a sippy cup for her. I use the Nuby cups with the handles on both sides and the thicker clear nipple...
I'll find a picture of it for you... she likes it a lot (crazy little chicky) :)
This one has the same silicone mouth piece, but the design is different...

Have you tried a doidy cup http://www.johnlewis.com/Shopping/Product.aspx?Type=SKU&ID=230409356&source=7533? It is suitable from 3 months (!), and you may be surprised at how your little one takes to it. At this stage it is for practice really (I still wouldn't give my daughter anything other than water in it, shes now 9 months).
If she is breastfed then you will need to find a beaker without the darn no-spill mechanism. Hows she supposed to know that if she sucks on that bit of plastic in her mouth she'll get a drink? A free-flowing beaker will help her get the idea - we like the Kids on the Go http://www.tommeetippee.co.uk/shop/home.php?pid=138&sid=3&cid=25.
If she is bottle fed, then it is really a matter of trial and error to find something that suits her. HV's generally suggest the Avent Magic Cup, but there are plenty of similar products available.

I absolutly love the Nuby cup. It has a latex spout and is really soft and flexible. Nuby also offers this cup with an actual nipple shape spout. Gerber *Nuk* has a new cup out as well that is supposed to be shaped like the pacifier nipple. 4 months old is the perfect time to start a cup as the younger they are the more willing they are to try new things.

Definitely the nuby cup. it has a silicone flexible nipple that is wonderful and they are very affordable! It is very easy to clean and my son loved them (the feel of the nipple made the transition easy). He was broke from the bottle by 9 months old, not by my decision tough, he learned how to unscrew his bottle and dump out the milk. So just listen to your child she'll tell you when she's ready for the cup, just don't push her to hard or she might never want to switch. Good Luck!

You're daughter doesn't need a cup right now. They are designed for babies of around 6 or 7 months when solids are being introduced. We used the Avent cups when our daughter got to around 6 months. They come with a soft spout for babies and a plastic spout for toddlers.
