27 1/2 is next. The sequence is: add 3.5, add 5.5, add 7.5, add 9.5, etc. The added number increases by two in each increment.

The series is n(2n + 1)/2, so the 5th term is 5*11/2 = 27.5 or 27 1/2

Your sequence can be rewritten as:
3/2, 10/2, 21/2, 36/2.
notice the denominator is always 2 and that the difference in the numerators is 7, 11,15, so nex difference wil be 19.
So next term is (36+19)/2 = 55/2

To get to 5 from 1 1/2, you add 3 1/2
To get to 10 1/2 from 5, you add 5 1/2
To get to 18 from 10 1/2, you add 7 1/2
So for the next number, add 9 1/2 to 18---you get 27 1/2

THe next numer would be 27.5 or 27 1/2
The first number is 1.5
The second number is 5
The third number is 10.5
The fourth number is 18
The difference 'tween the first two numbers is 3.5
The difference 'tween the second and third is 5.5
The difference 'tween the third and fourth is 7.5
Thus, the next logical difference would be 9.5
Add the 9.5 to 18 and you get 27.5

is it 11/2=5,5 or 11/2= 1+1/2=3/2 ?
