DVD shrink.

this software will take DVD's remove the copyright encoding, and place a copy on your hard drive. If you have nero (CD burning software) dvd shrink will work directly with that and nothing else is needed. To use DVD shrink once the DVD is in, it will come up and list all the data on the DVD (ex: french caption, spanish audio ect.) pick the ones that are english. (this is required to make the data fit on the DVD. Commerical DVD's have more space then DVD RW's and sometimes you need to shrink it by removing unecesary data like foreign langues.) Then press the "back up" button in nero

If you do not have nero, get some other DVD burning software. Then you use the DVD burning software to burn the files DVD shrink created. If the computer you bought is a Dell, it will have a program called "Sonic" which burns CD's and will work fine to burn the files created by the DVD shrink.

There is software available probably at best buy that you can purchase that will "unencode" and burn making it easier on you but it cost money.

NOTE: you cannot just stick a commercial DVD in your computer and simply hit "copy disc" because of copy right protection you must uncode it first. However, if you are burning a CD that has already been burned you can just hit copy disc because burned DVD's have no copyright protection (someone already ran it through a program like DVD shrink)

There are a number of ways to use a DVD writer.

Usually you would copy a file from your hard drive to the writable DVD .

You might download a film from the Internet to your hard drive and then copy it to a blank DVD.

You may want to make a copy of a DVD and so you would copy the DVD files to your hard drive and then from your hard drive to a blank writable DVD.

You can also write data to a DVD, not films, so you could make backups to a DVD.

Firstly, you'll need to copy the films to your hard drive, but you may come accross a problem.
Many movies these days are encryted with a small macro at the beginning.
To get round this, you'll need a copying program.
Loads on the net include..
icopydvd.... dvd clone.... and alchohol.
you also use the same program to re-burn the dvd.
have fun.

You should have Movie authoring and A tool to burn data, images and Music. Read the PC manual.

Then, open the programs and read the Help files.
