First Find a common denominator

1/6 and 7/8 have the number 24 in common

so write 24 as ur common denominator
1/6 /24
+7/8 /24

divide the bottom denominator
8/24 & 6/24

and multiply it times ur numerator
3*7 and 4*1

Then add the answers together
21+4=25

Your answer is 25/24

In the absense of brackets you have to give priority to multiplication, division, addition and subtraction in that order.

So you number would have to be
1/6 + 7/8 = 25/24
