Regardless of whether you signed papers, a court must enter an order, sometimes called a "divorce decree," for the marriage to be dissolved. You may not have had to appear before the judge, especially if there were no children involved, but the court still must take action. Therefore, if you (or your attorney) doesn't have such an order, your marriage has probably not been dissolved.
You can contact your divorce lawyer to ask. If not, you can contact the clerk in the county in which your divorce was filed. They can retrieve public documents (like divorce decrees) and provide you certified copies for a few dollars.

I agree with the first answer in that you can find out this information at the Clerk's Office for the Circuit Court in your jurisdiction. You should have received papers with a seal of approval and divorce granted from the judge. If you don't have a copy and go to the courthouse to find out if you are divorced and you indeed are, make copies of those papers for your record, you may need them.

Normally you get a paper in the mail from the Judge and it will tell you the date of when it becomes official.
At least that is what happened with mine. I was sent paper work to me from the Judge and it was like notarized by them. It stated to me that in 6 months that my divorce would be final and that I could not get married again until after that date shown on my paper work. Not that I had any plans of getting remarried, oh NO!
I would suggest that you go to the court house in your area and talk with them and see if you can find out from them what is going on. Let them know when you filed and give them all the information. I'm sure that they will be able to assist you with your needs.

I would suggest going to the courthouse and checking to see that the paperwork has been properly filed and that you are officially divorced.
This is not a stupid question. I have read of many men and women finding out years later that they were still legally married. A lot of times it comes about because a lawyer forgot to file the papers.

Well, you should have papers that are signed by you and your wife that say you are legally divorced. If you don't, then call your lawyer and ask him.
