Always use a condom for vaginal and anal sex, and a barrier method, such as a condom or dental dam, for oral sex. Latex condoms, when used consistently and correctly, are highly effective in preventing transmission of HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. In addition, correct and consistent use of latex condoms can reduce the risk of other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Make an agreement with a partner who is HIV-negative to be sexually faithful to each other, and stick to it. Talk to your partner about your sexual histories. Be honest with your partner and yourself - remember, this is about your health.

Using drugs or drinking alcohol can impair your judgment and lead to risky behavior and unprotected sex. This greatly increases your chances of contracting HIV. Staying sober helps you make better decisions. Also don't share needles or syringes for any kind of injection drug use.

According to my best friend's gay doctor:

1) Avoid unprotected sex as a bottom
2) Avoid oral anal contact after anal sex
3) Avoid oral sex if you have open mouth sores (biting your tongue or cheek or even grinding your teeth a lot will leave your mouth open to the HIV virus infection.)
